In April, the 2019 Safety Summit took place in Austin, TX. SafeStart Safety Consultant Joe Tantarelli delivered Buried Alive: A Survivor’s Story as the opening keynote on day two of the conference.
Buried Alive goes into detail about a time early in Joe’s career that he was nearly buried alive in a trench collapse. After years of searching for what went wrong, Joe finally learned not only why it happened but what everyone can do in their lives to prevent injuries from happening.
As a sponsor of this event, SafeStart was also proud to present the EHS Daily Advisor Safety Standout Awards. Joe was happy to distribute the awards to the winners, they include:
The Best Overall Safety Program Award went to The Great Lakes Construction Co. Accepting the award was their Director of Risk and Compliance William Hocevar, CSP, CIH—who notably was also the recipient of the BLR Lifetime Achievement Award. William speaks at a national level, he has been named Safety Professional of the Year, plus he led The Great Lakes Construction Co. to be named one of “America’s Safest Companies.”
The Innovations in Safety Training Award was presented to Northwell Health. Accepting this award was their Director of Operations for the Workforce Safety Department Paul M Power, EMT-P.
The Young Safety Professional Excellence Award recipient was Melanie Mayer, CSP. Melanie is the Quality and Compliance Manager at Haws Corporation. In only four years, Melanie has succeeded in developing and executing effective safety and compliance procedures.
