Expand Your Knowledge of Safety at the Safety+ National Symposium

Safety+ National Symposium

The VPPPA and Tennessee Safety & Health Conference (TSHC) have come together to bring safety professionals the Safety+ National Symposium in Nashville. This four-day educational event offers a pre-symposium workshop in addition to numerous featured workshops and speaking sessions led by experts including four of SafeStart’s best speakers.

Tim Page-Bottorff will present Humor in Safety Two Point Oh! The Sequel on August 29 at 8:00 a.m. This session is an updated version of Tim’s extremely popular presentation Humor in Safety. In it, Tim addresses the fact that most people find safety training dull and uninspiring. But it doesn’t have to be this way. By using the right tools and utilizing humor, trainers can make safety training interesting and even fun.

Gary Higbee will present Employee Engagement: Myth or Magic on August 29 at 1 p.m. In this session, Gary will discuss the fact that getting employees engaged is a function of cultural change and changing culture is a difficult task. But he offers useful steps and sound advice to help employers avoid pitfalls and achieve engagement.

Jack Jackson will present The Bad Side of Town on August 29 at 3:30 p.m. The session will address the type of awareness that’s needed for preventing a workplace injury before it occurs. Jack likens it to the heightened awareness level people develop when they find themselves on the “bad side of town”. It includes a strong urge for self-preservation and it’s exactly this type of awareness that can be applied to preventing a workplace injury before it occurs.

Joe Tantarelli will present Buried Alive: A Survivor’s Story on August 29 at 3:30 p.m. In his session, Joe will describe how he survived a near-fatal trench collapse and share what common errors led to that incident. He will address the importance of simple safety skills that can help prevent injuries like the ones he suffered.

The Symposium will be held from August 28 – 31 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, TN. The event will host thousands of EHS professionals and provide attendees with numerous educational activities, networking opportunities and inspirational sessions. The exposition also hosts an exhibition of hundreds of leading industry companies, including SafeStart, so come over and say hello at booth #201!
