SafeStart is committed to not only changing the way people view safety but investing in people for a better, safer future. The new ASSP SafeStart Certification Scholarship is a way to invest in the professional development of a future safety professional.

This scholarship provides a unique way for students to get a jump on their safety career by learning about human factors from seasoned professionals. It includes:

  • $500 for airfare/travel
  • SafeStart Three-Day Certification Workshop ($1,495 value)
  • Three nights hotel accommodation
  • Breakfast and lunch each day during the workshop
  • Networking opportunities with safety professionals from various companies

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must be enrolled in an OSH-related major, have a GPA of 3.0 for an undergraduate (3.5 GPA if applying as a graduate), and have at least 60 semester hours or undergraduate credits (or 24 if you’re seeking an associate’s degree).

“This scholarship is an investment in training our future leaders,” said SafeStart CEO Barb Tait. “With a SafeStart trainer certification, they can start their careers with credentials and expertise on how to use human factors training to reduce preventable injuries and death, both on and off the job.”

The offer for the ASSP SafeStart Certification Scholarship has already been awarded for the 2018-19 cycle. The winners were selected from the ASSP Foundation’s pool of applicants from the 2017-18 school year. In addition to the minimum criteria outlined above, applicants also had to submit detailed information about themselves by answering a series of predetermined questions, submitting narrative statements, and letters of recommendation.

Congratulations to the winners and stay tuned for future developments in our commitment to safety.
