SafeStart’s Top Presenters at the ASSE National Conference in Denver

Dubbed the industry’s “must-attend” event, the ASSE National Conference in Denver will provide industry professionals with an opportunity to gather and reflect on the state of safety in North America. Some of SafeStart’s best speakers will be among the forerunners in the industry providing education, training and a new way of thinking.

Larry Wilson, Vice President and author of SafeStart, will present Complacency: The Silent Killer at session #507, which will take place on June 20 at 10:45 a.m. Larry will discuss the fact that complacency often plays a significant part in the majority of injuries. He will also present ways in which organizations can efficiently minimize the effects of complacency. To be ahead of the class, check out his article on the subject here.

Tim Page-Bottorff, SafeStart senior safety consultant, will discuss the importance of humor in safety training during session #570 Humor in Safety: from Blah Blah Blah to Ha Ha Aha!  on June 20 at 3:15 p.m. With his usual enthusiasm and humor, Tim will offer advice and information to his audiences to help them better prepare and deliver their own training sessions and make their next safety training class fun and motivating as well as informative. This presentation is best heard live, but you can also check it out in this on-demand webinar.

Chris Ross, SafeStart implementation specialist speaking at the conference in the capacity of his company’s CEO, will present Harnessing the Power of Appreciative Inquiry to Achieve Transformational Results during session #592 on June 20 at 4:30 p.m. Passionate, energetic and humorous, Chris will address the fact that so much of safety is really about influence and change – trying to get leaders to change, trying to get employees to change their behaviors, helping the organization to change its culture. One of the most exciting tools for driving organizational change is Appreciative Inquiry (AI) which assumes that every organization has something that works right. AI identifies what is positive and connect it to ways that heighten energy and create a vision for change.

On June 21, Chris will also receive the Consultants Practice Specialty SPY (Safety Professional of the Year) Award during the Practice Specialties Lunch.

Don Wilson, Vice President of SafeStart, will present Leadership for Today’s Problems in session #618, which will take place on June 21 at 10:30 a.m. Don will discuss an issue many organizations face today: how can a company’s current safety management system protect its employees when the vast majority of accidental deaths and injuries occur outside the workplace? He will teach his audience how to influence people to learn critical error reduction techniques and awareness, and how to teach employees advanced safety skills required to be safer 24/7. For a primer on Don’s talk, read his article with the same title here.

Gary Higbee, SafeStart senior safety consultant, will discuss the subject of the third dimension in risk assessment in session #637 Rethinking Risk Assessment: Adding the 3rd Dimension on June 21 at 3 p.m. Backed by years of experience and a real passion for safety, Gary will address the fact that adding a third dimension to risk assessment makes it more robust and effective. This approach can significantly reduce injuries and also save time and money.

The ASSE National Conference will be held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver from June 19 to June 21. The conference will include many interesting sessions, pre- and post-show seminars and an exposition in which SafeStart will be participating (come and see us at booth 1317).
